Wednesday Whim - Office Wonderland

 all images via Creative Boom

Working in an office with pending deadlines and frantic co-workers can feel like a mad house sometimes. Naturally, someone would eventually take that notion and run with it. This Alice in Wonderland themed office in Waterloo, London shows how a quirky concept can be turned into a reality. Designed by Peldon Rose they took classic references from the classic tale and created a pretty wacky but playful (and non-traditional) office space. From the stripes, to an overgrown Alice and the Cheshire Cat, the six themed meeting rooms encourages creativity and productivity.

We've heard (and seen) fun office spaces from the likes of Google, Facebook and other tech start-ups so it goes to show that being in an office doesn't have to feel like this.

Wednesday Whim - Space Is Great

all images via JJ Locations via Enpundit

Living in San Francisco, or any urban area for that matter, can often mean you're limited in square footage. My husband and I are often reminded of this fact whenever we have guests come over to our place and we turn a corner and bump into someone. When I stumbled upon this feature on a London apartment I was awed by the creative use of space.

By suspending the bed into the air the walking area is dramatically increased without compromising design aesthetics. The bed sits below a retractable glass ceiling that gives access to a 500 sq. ft. rooftop garden. With minimal furniture, neutral colors and access to natural light this London flat looks modern and livable rather than outdated and cramped.

Wednesday Whim - Martin Schoeller and the Olympics

I'm utterly stoked for the 2012 Summer Olympics to begin (frankly, I'm much more of a fan for the summer sports over the winter sports). In honor of the Olympics, I thought it would be fun to do a post dedicated to the hard working athletes that will represent the USA in London.

German photographer Martin Schoeller captured some of the American Olympians for publication in TIME Magazine, ESPN Magazine and Women's Health Magazine. We get to see them as athletes outside of their competitive environment in a very intimate way (up close and personal). I'm in awe of the reality of what these athletes are capable of and seeing them in these photos makes it even more amazing.

Check out more about these images here and a "behind the scenes" video of Ryan Lochte's shoot below.

Wednesday Whim - London in Puddles

all images via Gavin Hammond (via My Modern Met)

I often dream about being able to travel all over the world, and one of those spots is London, England. It's a spot I associate with culture, style and of course royalty. It's also a spot that is often rainy and London-based photographer, Gavin Hammond, has captured the beauty of his city through the puddles on the street.

The photos are ethereal, surreal, dreamy, haunting and most of all, beautiful. In my own attempt at being creative, I have tried to capture scenes I've seen in puddles but I have failed. The photos come out muddy or I'm unable to capture the beauty of what I see. So I'm in complete awe of these photos and how stunning they are. These are just some photos in a series available at Gavin Hammond's Tumblr site.

What do you think? Have you been to London? Do you think these photos capture the beauty?
