Wednesday Whim - Millefiori

all images via Fabian Oefner via It's Nice That via Behance

As you know, I'm a fan of color. So it's no surprise that I was immediately attracted to these photos from a series called Millefiori by Swiss photographer, Fabian Oefner. At first glance, it just plain ol' looks cool. At second glace, you start to think...what exactly is that? The substance is actually something called ferrofluid, which has a consistency like motor oil. Ferrofluid reacts in a magnetic environment so when Fabian Oefner added water color paints to the substance and put it into a magnetic field, you get what you see in these photos. On top of all this, the size of these creations are only as big as thumbnails! How does someone think of that? Well...in this case, Fabian was was inspired by the works of Japanese artist, Sachiko Kodama.

  3. Oh wow, these are beautiful! I can't believe how tiny these are. I've never heard of Ferrofluid before, but it makes some amazing art.
