Wednesday Whim - Open Space

The unique design of this apartment (located in Kanagawa, Japan and completed in March, 2014) is based on an open space concept. An existing load-bearing wall lives in the middle of the unit so the bedroom and walk-in closet reside on either side. The windows form into an L-shape that create a flow of light and air throughout the home. Instead of creating separate rooms for the kitchen and bathroom areas, Sinato Architects continued the open space concept by designing them within the open areas.

Although there is no "closed off" sections in the home, every space is designated and defined. By keeping the interior neutral and minimal, the home feels clean and fresh.

Not too shabby for a dwelling inside a 26-year-old apartment complex.

  3. Love this inspired design . It looks deceptively simple, but I am sure there was meticulous planning to achieve this. Love the linear elements, the textures of the pine knots and aztec rugs, and the open floor plan. It is very inviting!

  4. I love all the light! It feels almost more like a mixed use place than a home but it's gorgeous!

  5. I am actually really digging this layout! And I love the colors of the floors. My husband and I were talking about changing up our floors and I had originally wanted dark colors but recently thought light boards would look so fresh. ;)
