Wednesday Whim - Willy Wonka-esque

all images by Miss Aniela via Tumblr

For good or for bad, Photoshop has become synonymous with a lot of work in the world of photography. But, Miss Aniela (who was recently commissioned by a Japanese advertising firm, K&L, to showcase the release of the new Nikon D810) proves that Photoshop isn't necessary to create amazing effects in photos.

Miss Aniela shot two back-to-back shoots (White Witch Awakening and Deep Sea Dream) of a "Willy Wonka-esque deliciousness" and was the first fashion photographer to showcase the new Nikon D810.

For her White Witch Awakening shoot, Miss Aniela and her team shot inside a 17th-century home called Aynhoe Park in the UK using a live zebra, flamingo and vulture mixed with stuffed animals. The only image processing was done with Nikon's Capture NX-D RAW image software.

For Deep Sea Dream, a huge octopus tentacle was commissioned for the shoot in a room filled with water, a mermaid and a princess lounging in velvet chairs.

Both shoots are filled with fantasy, whimsy and theatrical effects. Aside from the obvious talent of the photographer and her team, I appreciate how limited photo processing was used. Instead, the resulting photos showcase the camera and the skill of everyone involved and reminds us all of the art behind photography.

  2. It's so fun to see photos come to life like this and I can definitely appreciate that most of the work was actually done before the shutter was pressed as opposed to afterwards.
