Ethnic Bond

Re-worked overalls: Thrifted (last seen here - similar affordable option), Jacket: Zara, Heels: Zara, Accessories: Karen Walker sunglasses, Marc Jacobs city (Shanghai) beanie, Lionette and Alexis Bittar necklace, Jimmy Choo x H&M and Forever 21 bracelets, Nike FuelBand, Michael Kors watch, Catbird NYC rings, Lulu Frost code ring, Foley & Corinna tote

Chinese New Year is tomorrow and I have been in a dash to get my home in order before it starts. It's been tricky to do since I've had a busy schedule lately. There are several traditions and rituals that families have and while I'm not the most traditional person, I do honor them for my home since I find it important to who I am.

My family is from Shanghai so when I saw this Marc Jacobs city beanie, I immediately wanted it. There were several city names available (i.e. San Francisco) but, I really wanted to represent Shanghai. The beanie is inexpensive so I probably could have gotten away with buying both city names but, it felt more special to me to have one.

I don't have a strong connection to blood family members that are alive anymore (my parents have already passed) so I'm all for whatever gesture I can do to honor my heritage - especially during Chinese New Year.

  4. Happy Chines New Year to you! Love that you are honoring some of the traditions. That's awesome. Also, these overalls look so so chic. I love that they are scrunched up at the ankle, and the jacket and shoes look perfect with them.

  7. I don't think that owning two hats representing two cities makes either one less special. Wearing black is a taboo during the Chinese New Year celebration, though, and is traditionally avoided. :o I do wish you a Happy New Year and may you find much success in your life this year.
