Wednesday Whim - Veggie Utensils

all images via Qiyun Deng via This Is Colossal via THEmag

How much more fun would eating be if you used these veggie utensils? They're made from bioplastic PLA (a material that comes from vegetable fats, oils and starches) by product designer, Qiyun Deng, for her graduation project at the École cantonale d’art de Lausanne in Switzerland. Qiyun embarked on a four month project for this project (called Graft) to study texture and form co-existing with function. In this project for example, she "re-purposes" a celery stem to be a fork handle and an artichoke petal to be the bowl of the spoon. She wants people to question throwing away something that awakens your senses.

Too bad these are not made for mass production. I sure would consider purchasing them for picnics and outdoor dining.
