Peplum floral top: H&M (old), Vest: Zara, Skirt: American Apparel, Leopard flats: Gap, Accessories: Karen Walker sunglasses, Alisa Michelle and vintage bracelets, LionetteNY bracelet, Nike FuelBand, La Mer x Target leopard wrap watch, 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target handbag

I have never been shy about my shopping habits for designer collaborations with chain stores. I've featured numerous purchases, via my outfits, throughout this blog. Naturally, when the 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target collaboration released, I tried to restrain myself but also nab what I could (since hesitation usually means failure).

I have mixed emotions about designer collaborations. When they first began I thought it was such a brilliant move. Here was a way for people to afford designs by their favorite designers! However, it's become sort of a freak show of sorts with how crazy people get and the subsequent eBay fodder. Suddenly, I don't really know if I'm buying something because I really want it or if I'm feeding into the hype. Thankfully, having a wish list helps filter the hype but, things always change in the moment.

Regardless, the latest collaboration with Target was a semi-successful experience for me. I liked a lot of things, missed out on one of my favorite wish list items because I hesitated (see what I mean...failure) and enjoyed the fact that the collaboration itself really mimicked the designer's aesthetic. This handbag I'm carrying is nice and roomy, the handles are sturdy and I didn't even own a purple handbag beforehand. It's win-win for me.

What did you think of this latest collaboration?

  3. I'm not usually one to buy into collaborations myself. But this one, I did. And I went and spent FULL PRICE (which I never do) on a sweatshirt. This bag was worth it for sure! I love the colors in your scarf as well!

  4. Every time I see someone with the purple bag from this collection, I curse Target! I can't believe they sent me the wrong bag. :( I love your dress and the bag, of course. So envious! <3

  9. You're right- the ebay and hoarding part are crazy, but I sure love it when Target donates the stuff that doesn't sell to my neighborhood Goodwill! I've gotten a few nice things that way!

  13. I didn't know the Philip Lim x Target had a purple bag. I did noticed that this collection is still hanging on the racks. I'm was tempted to buy one of the tops because I really liked the style of this designer. I did end up buying one mini bag. I'm so happy with my purchase.

  20. To be honest, I've never really gotten into those collaborations with Target. I thought the BOOM jumper looked cute, but ultimately wasn't me. I think this purse is great on you though!

  21. I saw several bloggers going crazy over this collection but I have to say it is hard not to get into the hype. The collection has really cool pieces. The handbags look gorgeous, I really like the one you picked.

  22. You bought the same 3.1 Phillip Lim bag I did! I wanted one a little different than the tote everyone else bought. I didn't have the choice of getting purple though. Black was left. It's stunning in that color!

  23. I didn't get a chance to view the handbags and refuse to fuel the hype by going to the store. I did order some clothes online and really liked the floral peplum top.

    Love this outfit on you!

  24. I definitely agree with you- I think a lot of consumers give in to the hype without considering their taste or style before they buy an affordable designer piece. I have to admit that I'm not a fan of Target collaborations- I think high-end designers forfeit a lot of their aesthetic and quality in their pieces. The last time I bought a designer/Target collab piece it completely fell apart!
