Wednesday Whim - Family Portraits

all images via Camilla Catrambone via Behance via Petapixel     (above: Nanny Renata)

We all have family portraits, awkward or not. How we interpret them reveal a lot about that person's personality. We can see how stylish, how funny, how dorky or how serious the person has always been. But Italy-based photographer, Camilla Catrambone, has a unique series revealing her family.

In her appropriately titled series, Portraits Of My Family, instead of photographing the faces of her family, she captures their belongings. There's a nostalgic and sentimental feeling conveyed through the photos that could not have been captured had she taken a typical portrait. Despite not seeing the person, we can imagine who the person is. Based on the food photos, we can see her grandmother and mom as being quite the foodies in her family and based on the tools we can understand her grandpa liked working with his hands and probably various projects throughout their home.

There's so much history and family traditions that can be seen in this series that I just adore.
Even though these items don't belong to anyone in my family, I can relate to each item. It's the sense of relationship that I feel attached to in these photos.

What do you think?
