Wednesday Whim - Even Superheroes...

images via Benjamin Béchet

Everyone of us has good days and bad days. What we see projected by people online isn't necessarily the "day to day" life (in fact, have you read this article about Facebook?). A lot of people look towards the pop culture lifestyles of celebrities and project their life into our own. And then that's when the comparison questions of "why don't I have this?" and "how come I don't have that?" come into play.

Don't get me wrong - I'm certainly guilty of this as well. It gets especially tough since I'm really starting to settle into my adulthood (as scary as that sounds already) and where I am now isn't exactly how I imagined it when I was just a teenager (and all my dreams seemed like they could become reality). This is why I'm attracted to this photo series, "I Am Winnie the Pooh" by French photographer, Benjamin
Béchet. He showcases the heroes and childhood idols that we have come to know in "real life" situations. What happens when the heroes encounter the reality so many others do? In a world where there is good and evil, he reminds us that nothing is ever as it seems.

What do you think?

  1. thank you for this post. it's always nice to stop and think about life as it is. i always remember an important quote by Epicurus "not what we have, but what we enjoy constitutes our abundance."

  4. Wow those are awesome pictures...!! So interesting. And yes of course- nothing is ever as it seems... But I figure the only way around that is to BE what you seem :) that way at least there's one less person causing rampant confusion out there.

  6. these photos made me so emotional! They are great though and totally true... things are never as they seem, and even if we wish and hope to live these glamorous and/or fairytale lifestyles that celebs do, we sometimes forget that they may look happy from the outside, but really aren't, or that they wish that they could live a 'normal' life like the majority of people. It's hard to not get caught up in the 'what if' game, but as I've gotten older and see how some people live, I'm just so thankful to have what I do and most importantly have an amazing family! Okay, done rambling and becoming an emotional mess :)
