When it comes to recycling and remodeling in the design industry, this hotel in the Netherlands takes the cake. Het Arresthuis is a former prison facility converted into a lavish hotel. The bars are even still on the windows! Warm colors, modern fixtures and furniture and mood lighting have morphed the interiors from stone cold and frigid into comfortable and beautiful.
The prison (originally known as the Judgement House) first opened in 1863 and has closed and re-opened through the years. It finally closed its doors a mere six years ago (2007)! Now operating as a hotel Het Arresthuis offer 36 rooms and 7 suites (aptly named The Director, The Jailer, The Lawyer and The Judge). The design of the hotel incorporates its history and humor for the guests who stay. It's pretty cool to see a transformation like this one!
