Wednesday Whim - Erika Iris Simmons

all images and art by Erika Iris Simmons and Flickr (via Fubiz)

Erika Iris Simmons creates art using recycled materials and meticulously composes the materials into an image or portrait. Whether she is using film reels to recreate the images of famous actors in movies or using musical sheets to create images imagined from the music, she diligently works at her craft to "explore the projects that are meaningful" to her.

After reading a bit more about her in her bio section on her website, I'm anxious to see what she does next. What do you think of her work?

  2. Her works reminds me of Michael Kalish, who re-uses materials into his work. Most recently, he used vintage punching bags to create a huge sculpture in honor of Muhammad Ali (when you look at it at the right angle you see Ali's face). He also did a piece for my City using an old fire engine and reworking it into a turnout coat & helmet.
